Welcome

Welcome

BOSS

Boss is the Afrikaans acronym for “Bonnievale Outisme Sorgsentrum”(Bonnievale Autism Care Centre).

Parents were looking for a safe haven, appropriate for the needs of young autistic adults, but very few residential facilities in the Western Cape are prepared to accept young adults on the autism spectrum.

What we offer

Our Facilities

Activities

Staff is trained to set up weekly programs of activities. We have a few chickens, cows, and sheep on the property and a St. Bernard dog, who in her turn, provides playful therapy.

Outdoor Time

The residents engage in daily gardening activities, take daily walks, and enjoy swimming in the summer. In addition, they actively participate in taking care of the animals.

Daily Nutrition

Three healthy meals and snacks are provided daily.

Our son is one of the three young men who were the first residents of BOSS. Being involved in Bonnievale Autism Care Centre from the word ‘go’, gave me, as mother, the chance to give input and to help establish BOSS as a true home-away-from-home. – Every parent wants the BEST for his/her child and the people at BOSS has succeeded in creating a home that every parent can be proud of. At BOSS, our children are not just given a safe environment to live in; they are not just given meals and snacks; they are not just provided with their own rooms to sleep in…… BOSS decided from the outset, to have a daily program in place, to keep our residents busy in a constructive way during the day. The staff gets training continuously and try to cater to the needs of each individual resident. (Unfortunately, in the autism world, you get different degrees of autism and placement at BOSS is strict. Any potential new resident has to go through a trial period, to see whether his presence will maintain the current harmony that exists in the home. New residents need to be able to fit into our daily program and contribute toward this program. So: BOSS is not a “one size fits all” facility! The trustees has had to refuse entry/placement to a couple of applicants and this was very difficult. It gives me peace of mind to know that the most important aspect of BOSS, is to keep the residents happy and the atmosphere in the home, peaceful!) Over the past 4 years, our son has shown improvement in many areas and he is truly happy at BOSS. The staff has become like family friends and the BOSS Trust runs the home carefully and in accordance to Biblical values. God is paramount and all decisions are prayed over. We are happy and our son is happy!

When I heard about BOSS, I immediately set up a meeting to go and see Thia and Henk. I KNEW this was going to be THE place for Mickey, and I was 100% correct! Mickey (and I) could not be happier. My son is extremely well loved and cared for. The workshops that are run during the day are fantastic and on the level of each child. The management and carers are exceptional! The walks they take, the dinners they go to, the swims they have, etc. are so much fun, and of course so educational. I was looking for a life long residence for my boy. I have found it!
